Back in the saddle

You would think I could manage a blog posting between April and August. Ugh. My part-time job has become a super-charged part-time job, which has siphoned off all of my extra energy and time. Usually I end up choosing to spend whatever spare time I have with Liam and/or Scott. Still, it's frustrating to have to postpone everything else month after month. But that's enough about that. Liam and I are going out for a run before his bedtime (I will, of course, be settling in for more work after he's asleep, ugh). Just wanted to post something. Here are some photos of Scott and Liam from June.

My name is Amy, from which you can probably deduce that I am an American female born in the 1970s. Outside things to know: I live in a square house on a suburban street. I have a husband, a son, a job, a mortgage, a couple of cars, wonderful friends, and a small yard with an odd assortment of plants growing in various places. Yes, everything is in place: check, check, check. (We also had a pet cat until recently, when he died from kidney failure: uncheck.)

I love all these things, except the mortgage, and I'd rather not have to own a car. Inside of my head I have a pretty good time too, most of the time anyway. I love to write so that I can sort through what I experience and think about. I love to paint for pretty much the same reason. But I can't write and paint all the time because it's a great deal of work and sometimes I just don't feel like it. Besides, I enjoy doing (and have to do) other important things too, like mothering, domestic chores, my job (which I love), and Boggle on my iPhone. But I find if I don't write or paint fairly regularly I become mentally constipated, with all the discomfort of the spirit the term implies. So a while ago I started a blog as an easy place to put everything, never intending to show it to anyone at all. A few people have asked to see it, however, so I've decided to subvert my own nature and put myself out there. I cringe just thinking about it, but I think it's a good decision nonetheless. A late, reticent bloomer is still a bloomer after all.
