card tricks for a dog

Sometimes I'm the guy doing tricks. Often I think I might be the dog. Mostly this site is for me - a place to put it all. But it would be lovely if you enjoy it too.

Holiday picture, 2005. This is what I mean. Am I the dog? Am I doing the card tricks? So hard to say.

About

My name is Amy, from which you can probably deduce that I am an American female born in the 1970s. Outside things to know: I live in a square house on a suburban street. I have a husband, a son, a job, a mortgage, a couple of cars, wonderful friends, and a small yard with an odd assortment of plants growing in various places. Yes, everything is in place: check, check, check. (We also had a pet cat until recently, when he died from kidney failure: uncheck.)
*Update: New cat adopted July 2011. Re-check.* Update 2: Another cat adopted August 2011. It found us and we're suckers. Double-check.*
I love all these things, except the mortgage, and I'd rather not have to own a car. Inside of my head I have a pretty good time too, most of the time anyway. I love to write so that I can sort through what I experience and think about. I love to paint for pretty much the same reason. But I can't write and paint all the time because it's a great deal of work and sometimes I just don't feel like it. Besides, I enjoy doing (and have to do) other important things too, like mothering, domestic chores, my job (which I love), and Boggle on my iPhone. But I find if I don't write or paint fairly regularly I become mentally constipated, with all the discomfort of the spirit the term implies. So a while ago I started a blog as an easy place to put everything, never intending to show it to anyone at all. A few people have asked to see it, however, so I've decided to subvert my own nature and put myself out there. I cringe just thinking about it, but I think it's a good decision nonetheless. A late, reticent bloomer is still a bloomer after all.
